The Climber

Audrey has climbed out of her crib a couple times after her nap during the day, but she really doesn't do it much. This morning I heard her crying a little at 6:15am. I went in and was shocked to see her standing outside her crib reaching in. I put her back in and she feel back asleep for another hour or so. I went back to bed too, but I couldn't sleep. It was still dark in her room--what if she had fallen and broken a bone or worse. The pedia said if she does it continually then I should convert the crib to a toddler bed. She's not even 16 months, I am not ready to put her in a big girl bed yet...so sad. I'm considering one of those crib tents. Any advice?

Is there a lower setting for the crib mattress? You probably already have but if not, I would put it as low as possible so she couldn't get out. One of our neighbors in Lehi had a crib tent when her daughter started climbing out (aren't boys supposed to be the climbers?!) and she said she cried for a few nights but then got over it and realized her attempts were futile and slept great. Good luck!

On the other hand, do you need a crib for the unborn? If so and you are going to put Audrey in a toddler bed, you will probably want to make sure she's totally used to it by the time the baby comes or she might get territorial about her crib. Just a thought (what do I know? :) )

The toddler bed might be worth a try- we put Brian in a twin bed when he was 18 months, and he did amazingly well. You never know . . . although the crib tent sounds like a good idea too.

Makayla climbed and fell out of her crib at 15 months. I was so scared to put her back in for fear that she would try it again and seriously get hurt. So, we put her in a toddler bed. She did great! Good luck!
