single mom summer

German finished school on Friday, May 13th and started his summer internship on Monday May 16th. He is interning at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Temple, Texas about 80 miles away. He works Mon-Fri and stays the night with an LDS family there in Temple and so far things are going pretty good. I'm so glad he is able to come home on the weekends. He is really enjoying his experience and he feels like working for the VA would be a great career choice for him. The girls and I miss dad, but we are surviving. I've been busy which really helps to make the time fly by faster. The twins just finished a 2-week swimming lesson last week and jumped off the diving board twice...it was so cute! I finished work last week and it is really nice to be done for the summer. I enjoyed teaching ESL, but things were stressful sometimes trying to find a babysitter every week and feeling less than energetic, not sure if I will do it again next year.

After the VA internship is over next week, German starts another internship in Dallas. We will see less of him, but I will try to stay busy. I think Audrey misses him the most, she asks about him alot and every week when dad kisses the girls goodbye Audrey says, "no daddy, please don't go." Last night she told me that her elephant (the one she sleeps with every night) misses her when she goes away and that he wants to come with her next time.

Lucy loves to help me cook, everytime she sees me cooking she goes to find her little chair to stand on and asks me what I am making. She'll say "Can I help you mommy? Oh no, I didn't wash my hands, I'll be right back!" When she returns she'll ask me if I washed my hands, too. She loves to sing, too! I checked out a book from the library called Song for a Princess, there's a little bird who sings a song to a sad princess to cheer her up. I made up a tune to go with the little poem he sings to the princess, it took me awhile to remember how I sung it, but now the girls have it memorized and want to sing it 5-6 times every night. Lucy loves it the most.

Sage loves to dance and give kisses, I love her head tilt w/ little puckered lips! She has to do whatever her sisters are doing and has very little fear, except during nursery. I still wait with her in nursery for a little while and I have to sneak out when she's not looking. I have been reading a book about attachment parenting and although I can't say I fully agree with everything in the book, there are many points that rang true and it's making me rethink some of my old ideas about parenting. I really want to change how I discipline and try harder to use the golden rule. I don't always treat my children the way I would like to be treated--I am a continual work in progress I guess.

Lately

We've just been hanging out doing what we can to have fun and stay sane. Sometimes I just want to run to the top of a big hill and scream my lungs out. I love these monkeys, but they drive me batty some days.

Here's some photos and tidbits of the last month or so...I posted this pic on FB, but I wanted to put it on our blog, too. Audrey loves drawing family pictures and I love them, too.
Nana Gail sent a slip n slide and the girls went nutso. It was lots of fun! She also sent Tangled and Rapunzel is my daily lifesaver. Thanks nana!
The engineering department on campus had a Physics Festival which was really fun. The girls loved the bubble show and Lucy loved having her hair stick up.

And this Sage of ours is finally happy again. After months of having a chronic snotty nose and repeated ear infections, she had tubes put in her ears and adenoids taken out. She and I have been sleeping much better and been happier ever since. Oh and she's obsessed with her dad--I mean completely enamored. She only wants him, she cries for him, she plays the damsel in distress whenever he's around, she MUST have his undivided attention and must be in his arms in every possible moment. She will only cuddle with me or let me hold her if he is out of the house, but once he walks in the door it's see ya later mom! And I'm okay with it...after all, he is a pretty great guy and I am always in need of a break.

The girls also got to meet and visit with their great aunt Lynn and uncle Bunky from Tennessee, but I have not downloaded the pictures yet. Must add that to my 'to do' list...my dreaded never-ending 'to do' list. I guess that's all for now.

The girls love Birthdays!

Everytime Audrey watches this she gets mad at me and says "MOM, you didn't give Audrey a candle!"

I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints...

I know who I am, I know God's plan. I'll follow Him in faith.

I hope these three will follow Him, too because I really like having 'em around.

The twins three year check-up

Lucy now weighs less than Audrey and is still shorter:
Lu's stats: 37 lbs and 40.2 inches
Ree's stats: 38.6 lbs and 41.2 inches
Both are in the 95 percentile and very big healthy girls.

Nana Gail was able to come celebrate their birthday with us and the girls had so much fun playing with her. We had a birthday party that lasted all day long. They had german pancakes with berries and cream for breakfast. Then they got to open some presents. I surprised them with a room redesign and now they have a dressup corner with a mirror and a reading corner with big pillows. I also bought a toy organizer with bins, so now most of their toys are upstairs. I LOVE it and so do they! Then they got more fun princess coloring and painting presents from nana Gail and even birthday letters in the mail from dad. After naptime they had fun with balloons (although half of them popped before we even got home! arrgghh!) and they loved their two butterfly balloons. Sadly, the next day Lucy accidentally let go of her butterfly balloon outside and she has reminded me about it flying away everyday since. They got some fun puzzles and had a few friends over for a picnic birthday party in our backyard. They flew foam airplanes and played pin the clouds on the rainbow. They got to eat outside and loved their hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, cake, ice cream and their favorite of the night...candy necklaces.

It was a fun day for the whole family! Thanks for all your help nana Gail and for joining us on their special day. Still can't believe they are already three...woweee!

I win worst mom award this morning...

I have very little patience when I am sick. Plus we had two midnight bed-wettings (dad sometimes likes to give the girls big glasses of water before bed), so being sick and tired makes me just a big ol' grump of a mom. My poor girls somehow decided to be super disobedient this morning and make lots of big messes. Not a good recipe, but now they are finally taking a nap and I better go rest as well, so that maybe grumpy mom will be gone by the afternoon.

My family sentiments

I love my girls and their daddy so much. Like LOTS. Tonight at bedtime the girls were going down their little slide in their bedroom and Sage stopped to give dad the most adorable grin. And I thought the girls were lovesick for dad, but Sage pretty much worships him. Anyway, dad smiled back and says, "You are so cute, I could have 10 more of you!" I responded with a lovely scowl...SAY WHAT? I really wish HE could have 10 more, too. I want the baby w/o the pregnancy, but I guess it doesn't work that way.

There are lots of my friends having babies right now here and I just want to schmoozle them. I love newborns. They cuddle so perfectly and smell so sweet...such intoxicating little beings. I've been thinking how I really would like to have more babies someday. Right now we are preventing it and we hope to try again in a couple of years. But in the back of my mind there's this what if? What if we can't get pregnant again? Getting pregnant with Sage could have just been a fluke. What if this is it for us? But I guess that is where faith comes in--I do have faith that the Lord knows what is best for our family. And even though I complain sometimes about the daily stresses of motherhood, it sure is wonderful and there is nothing else I'd rather be doing with my life. I love them so much and I really wouldn't mind having more to love!

Anyway, I've been thinking lately about how I was sick and prego when the twins were Sage's age. I don't really remember alot of them because I had my head over the toilet or was trying not to have my head over the toilet. Sage spits out new words everyday and it is amazing how well she can imitate her sisters (the good and the bad)! She repeats everything they say and has to do and be everywhere they are. She is a bonafide toddler now and gives really great hugs, too. I love her.

Audrey is sensitive and super loving. Cuddling is her favorite thing to do. I think she would do it all day if she could. She loves to read books to Sage and right now her favorite is Monster at the end of this Book. She has it memorized and we love her reenactment of the tale. I love her. She and Lucy love to chatter chatter chatter. My little birds. They play well together most of the time, which is great for me. Lucy is outgoing and her laugh is infectious. She loves music and dancing. She also loves kisses, as a matter of fact tonight during dinner, she stood up on her chair, leaned forward on the table and said "Daddy, I want a kiss." She got her kiss and went right back to eating. I love her. I really wish they'd stop getting so big. They will be three on Saturday! How does that happen so quickly?

German is enjoying his studies getting a master's in Public Health at A&M. He is fascinated by the unintended consequences of government policy incentives that lead to the rising costs of healthcare. He has been researching diabetes in the U.S. and telling me about how it relates to our food supply. He's interested in urban planning as well because Texas needs more sidewalks/bike lanes, so people can exercise and do it more safely. I mean, seriously, how does a college town have NO bike lanes and few sidewalks?!?!?! He has also been interning at a local hospital and is intrigued by the inner-workings of operating such a massive business. After graduation he would like to work as a policy analyst with hopes to change the disincentives to good health. I am so glad he has found something he feels passionate about and will enjoy doing as a career. He loves to play with the girls and helps out so much around the house. I also love how much he encourages me to just do my best as a mom and supports me in whatever goals I set for myself. I feel super lucky to have such an amazing man for a husband. I sure love him, too.

Well, it's late and I better get ready for bed. I realized I've only posted pictures lately and felt the blog was long overdue for a journal post. I love my little family! Goodnight.

Sage's one year check up

We have a well-proportioned off the charts baby girl--just like her sisters. And we love her to pieces! She says noo, mama and duck and loves following her sisters around everywhere. Last week she got four shots, four molars cut and they found she had an ear infection. She was sooo cranky, but I can tell she is now feeling much better.

28 lbs & 31.5 inches of cuteness

Tia Patty...

The girls LOVED her!

Hawaiian tea party

The girls and I love to have tea parties. They usually wear hats and carry purses, but since Nana Gail sent them flower leis from Hawaii, we had a Hawaiian themed one.

Sage being her happy little self. She LOVES this little camping chair!

We miss you Darlene and Aaron!

Darlene and I have been friends since 1997 and the girls were lucky enough to have her and Aaron as their nursery leaders this past year. But Aaron graduated and a few weeks ago they moved away. I am sad. I was not able to get together with her as much as I would have liked because life with three little ones is still overwhelming for me. But I love her and miss her. Luckily, she didn't move too far away and hopefully we can get together again soon.

Lucy cheesing it up in nursery...

After church on their last Sunday, thus my hair is a frizzy mess. Hey Darlene, why are you so dang beautiful?

The girls loved her, too!

Thanks for being such a great friends and nursery leaders. We miss you!
